Arbórea Canopy ANC headphones, studio render on cream backdrop

Canopy is an over-ear headphone made of oiled walnut, brushed aluminum, and patience. Forty hours of listening. Active noise cancellation tuned to the hush of old growth. Nothing that blinks.

01 — Materials

Two materials,
chosen slowly.

Macro photograph of oiled walnut grain Macro · American black walnut, ×6
Material I / Earcups

Walnut, oiled
by hand.

Each pair of earcups is turned from a single board of American black walnut, then finished with three coats of cold-pressed linseed oil. The grain never repeats. Neither will yours.

  • SourceFSC-certified, Missouri Ozarks
  • SeasoningAir-dried, 24 months
  • FinishLinseed oil, burnished wax
  • Acoustic roleNatural resonance damping
Material II / Frame

Aluminum, brushed
one way.

The headband and yokes are milled from a single billet of 6061 aluminum, brushed along the grain and left unlacquered — so it wears a soft patina where your hands return to it.

02 — Sound

Noise off.
Nothing added.

Most cancellation fights sound with sound. Ours listens first — six microphones sample the room 48,000 times a second, then remove only what isn’t music.

What remains is the quiet you notice a hundred metres into the trees: not silence, exactly. Room to hear.

03 — Finishes

Three finishes,
from the same woods.

Canopy in Lichen finish
Lichen 01 · Walnut / Bone
Canopy in River finish
River 02 · Walnut / Slate
Canopy in Ember finish
Ember 03 · Walnut / Clay

Every finish uses the same walnut earcups and unlacquered aluminum frame. Dyes are plant-derived; colour deepens gently with sunlight and years.
